About This Site
The Basketball Shoes is written for grown-up rec players and hoops parents. We cover basketball shoes for indoor hardwood and the occasional outdoor court, wide-fit options for players whose forefoot gets pinched, and ankle braces for anyone who has rolled an ankle and wants to keep playing. Every review comes from shoes worn in real pickup runs and league games, with honest notes on fit, grip, cushioning and how a pair holds up.

Court Safety
Basketball is a contact sport with a lot of cutting, jumping and landing, and no shoe or brace can prevent every injury. Ankle sprains, knee injuries and Achilles problems happen to players of every age and skill level. A high-top collar or an ankle brace supports the joint; it does not make an ankle injury-proof, and a brace is not a substitute for rehab or strength and balance work.
If you have a current injury, pain that lasts after you play, swelling, numbness, or a history of serious ankle, knee or foot problems, talk to a doctor or physical therapist before relying on any product we review. Stop playing if something hurts in a way that is new.
Fit matters for safety. A shoe that is too narrow can cause numbness and blisters, and a heel that slips raises the risk of rolling an ankle. Try shoes on with the socks and any brace you actually play in. Replace shoes whose traction or heel support has worn down, and wipe dusty soles during games, since a slick floor is a common cause of falls. Outdoor asphalt wears outsoles much faster than hardwood. Warm up before you play, stay hydrated, and know your limits, especially when you are coming back after time off.
